In 2001, the Zayed Charity Run was created to embody the UAE's vision of spreading love and peace around the world, as well as Sheikh Zayed’s commitment to supporting charitable causes.
The inaugural Abu Dhabi marathon was a huge success, with many people participating to celebrate the Founding Father's charitable spirit. This was followed by the first New York edition in 2005, which was held in collaboration with the National Kidney Foundation in New York City and the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Washington.
In 2024, the generous and giving Zayed Charity Run expanded to Egypt, where it is still organized annually by the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Egypt, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports.
After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Zayed Charity Run made a triumphant return in 2022, and it will continue to inspire runners in the UAE in November and Egypt in December. The event is poised to reach new heights in 2024, with the addition of Miami and Kerala to the calendar.
