Brief look at NASA's 1977 Voyager 1 Mission that sent a probe to Jupiter and Saturn which made some remarkable discoveries. With its primary mission complete, Voyager is still sending information back to Earth. It will run out of electrical power in 2025.
Operating for 37 years, 5 months and 12 days as of February 17, 2015, the spacecraft communicates with the Deep Space Network to receive routine commands and return data. At a distance of about 130.62 AU (from Sun) and 12,156,648,503 miles from Earth as of 2/17/15, Voyager 1 traveling at a velocity of 38,000 mph (61,000 km/h), is the farthest spacecraft from Earth.
