Our player gets (more) global with new translations

Vimeo Staff

Recently, we announced our new slate of Vimeo Originals, which hail from incredible creators living all over the globe (including Marina Abramović in Brazil: The Space in Betweenour first Original film from Latin America). In fact, every day, people of all backgrounds can (and do!) upload their videos to Vimeo, and fans in over 240 countries come here to discover, watch, and share their stuff. Translation: we believe our tools should cater to our international community, and now, we’re happy to say the Vimeo player is available in eight languages. Génial!

More languages for you

Whether viewers prefer English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian (this one’s just available in the player for now), or Spanish — they can now easily interact with the video player in the language of their choice via Vimeo's AI translation. That means that whether you add a Staff Pick to your Watch Later list, share a video on social, or set a private password for your latest upload, you’ll see words that make sense to you. And for Vimeo PRO and Business members, email capture is translated as well, so you can connect with people in their language and generate leads more effectively. Excelente.

How it works

The player automatically detects your language based on your region or if you have a custom browser language in place. And if you want to set a language for all the Vimeo videos you watch, simply pop down to the footer of vimeo.com, tap the language you prefer, and you’ll be good to go. As always, creators can upload subtitles in any language to their videos. And in the future, our plan is to offer automatic subtitle detection based on the languages we have available, so things will be even better for our international viewers. All of this is big news for filmmakers who want to reach more audiences, businesses who want to engage with more customers, and video lovers who want to watch and share their favorites in their own languages. Our player is still super light, with some of the speediest load times around. Even better: you can use AI to dub your video in multiple languages, as part of our larger Vimeo AI translation offering.

Play on, player

Even more updates lie ahead for our player. So if you speak another language, know that we’re planning to add more — and don’t be shy about it! Tell us in the comments which one you’re waiting on so we can hop to it. Now, to celebrate our newly multilingual player, we’ve gathered up some of our favorite videos from all across the entire planet. Enjoy, friends.

You can also leverage other cutting edge tools from Vimeo like our AI-powered script writer, video prompting tool, automated subtitle creator, and intelligent video translator.
