The Aquaphon A200 Acoustic Leak Detector is the most capable leak detector and leak locator on the market. The CombiPhon is a pipe locator for water mains and water service lines. The Generator is a controllable device that can be used with either the Knocker for 2" and smaller pipe and tubing, or the Stopper, for water mains and fire hydrants. The Knocker is a non-invasive device strapped to the outside of pipe to generate a detectable noise. The Stopper is a controllable valve that creates a pulsing noise on water mains when installed on a hydrant hose nozzle. An acoustic leak locator is then used to locate the pipe based on the sound locations.
This is the Sewerin SePem leak logger system. Most leaks are found by detecting the acoustic noise of the leak. However, that can sometimes be difficult to hear in the daytime with traffic noise and water usage noise on the water distribution system. SePem allows the utility to deploy loggers to listen unattended at night when there is less sound and water pressures are higher. It can be deployed in a "lift and shift" manner to find unkown leaks moving the loggers through the system. It can also be used to permanently monitor for new leak noise to find developing leaks early to minimize water loss and property damage. The Receiver can read the loggers from a moving vehicle just like a drive-by meter reading system.
