Excerpts of Ghanaian drum master Yacub Addy's performances with his exceptional ensemble Odadaa!, which feature him playing master drum parts of traditional and creative pieces, as well as skillfully negotiating an improv with Wynton Marsalis when the renowned trumpeter surprised him with new material on stage at the 07 Montreal Jazz Festival.

    Excerpts were taken from:

    1) "Congo Square - Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Yacub Addy and Odadaa!" at the Montreal Jazz Festival 07. "Congo Square" was co-composed by Wynton Marsalis and Ghanaian drum master Yacub Addy.

    2) Video documentation of "Africa Jazz", presented 5/03, Columbia University, NYC by Jazz at Lincoln Center, a collaboration by Yacub Addy and Wynton Marsalis which featured Odadaa! and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Selected clip features Yacub Addy and Odadaa!.

  2. Highlights of a performance by Yacub Addy's Odadaa! March 28, 2009 at Symphony Space, NYC for the World Music Institute.

    An exceptional ensemble of artists from Ghana, Odadaa! includes drummers, instrumentalists, singers and dancers of the Ga ethnic group, and a single American-born singer.

    Odadaa!'s founder and leader is the elder Ga drum master Yacub Addy, a hip and cosmopolitan traditionalist who bucked the status quo to live a life of culture.
