IFAP President Ajay Vashee talks about a "crisis of confidence" in agriculture that farmers are facing. Shocked by the reality of volatile prices and costs that have left them to grapple with an unstable market, farmers are in a situation that is very negative for investment in agriculture, that is exactly the opposite of what is needed for the world is to double food production by 2050 to feed a growing population with essentially the same resources, while providing extensive ecological services to humanity. Forecasting another “food crisis” in the next 2-3 years, Vashee says lost productive capacity may be lost forever if investment in agriculture is not increased.
