I’ll be honest, I’ve had my heart broken before. I’ve also ripped out my share of hearts with my hand, which is attached to a stick. I decided to reflect on my failed relationships with the format that I know best: videos. So here’s my step-by-step guide to falling in and out of love video mixtape. High five!
‘Love is in the Fair’ from THE BITTER SOUTHERNER
When I replay meeting my first childhood crush in my head, it’s gosh darn adorable. Straight out of a movie. After watching this documentary, I realize that no one that age looks adorable, despite getting to pick out custom colors for your braces. Anyways, hearing teenagers say that their relationship is going to last forever just affirms that ignorance is bliss.
‘Love Stories – Chapter One, Bo’ from Caroline Koning
Crushes don’t hold a candle to the real deal L word though. Meet Bo. She’s going to make the air around you feel lighter and just dazzle you by basically everything she does. You’re going to fall for her big time. Congratulations, you’re in love.
Miike Snow ‘Genghis Khan’ from Ninian Doff
Things are going great in your relationship. You just started to realize that every song on the radio is about how you feel, and it makes you immediately think about that special someone. You’re in the honeymoon phase, and everything is great. It often takes a while to find the right one, as seen in this music video from Ninian Doff, but when it happens, it’ll make you feel like dancing.
‘Rafael Castro : Ciúme’ from Daniel Bruson
Humans have flaws. Fights are inevitable. You can’t just go through life dancing and twirling, can you? Sometimes minds wander and with them, eyes too. Jealousy ensues and a fight is soon to come. But humans also have the ability to forgive, and sure enough, that loving flame is back.
‘Glue’ from Bo Mirosseni
That flame is fragile though and no Band-Aided shield can stop it from being blown out by the mighty gale force winds of petty issues. You still love the person and all, but the fact that they spend hours a day playing the modern-day equivalent of a Tamagotchi on their iPhone drives you up the wall. In Bo Mirosseni‘s (no known relation to the previously mentioned Bo) film, that iPhone takes a similar flight into the wall. But relationships, like smashed phones, can be repaired.
Harrison – How Can It Be (feat. Maddee) from Last Gang Records
In the grand scheme of things, more relationships end then last. If you’re lucky, the break up won’t happen over the phone. If you’re a statistical anomaly, you’ll never have to break up! Whichever the case, here’s a wonderful first-hand experience of being broken up with via a telephone. Or, you could look at it as a one-way street to the psyche of today’s teenager.
‘Phantom Power’ Music Promo from Persistent Peril
Fortunately, time heals all and you’re eventually able to forget all those nice times and nagging ideas that ‘the one’ just got away. And not just forget, you’re able to smash those ideas with an axe into little pieces so that it was like they were never there to begin with at all. HAHAHA.
‘Me & You’ from Jack Tew
But despite all those ups and downs, elated and depressed feelings, because you’re human, you’ll continue your search for love. Catching glimpses of it as it skips away and turns the corner. You’ll reach out and grab hold, only to repeat the same process again and again until you really do find the right one. Here’s a look back at all the stages, compressed neatly into one simply ingenious film from Jack Tew.
