On a conference call, Ann Willoughby would politely interject and then go on to make a point. We were tickled, that lovely Mississippi accent certainly wasn’t any one else of us in the group.

The best part of the design community is meeting and working hard with so many talented designers, whether on a project, at a conference, or judging a show.

Ann is a 2014 Centennial Medalist and the co-chair of the AIGA’s Centennial program. She has been a design-life-long friend and advocate of Michael Cronan, one of our Bay Area 2014 Centennial Medalists.

Join in as Ann and friends tell stories about Michael, a life in design, and the studio of the future.

Celebrate the visionaries and the Bay Area leaders who are transforming both design and business today.

The American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) Centennial honors the national AIGA’s 100 Years of Design and the Bay Area’s prestigious AIGA Centennial Medalists Michael Cronan, Richard Danne, Michael Mabry and Bill Moggridge.

Intimate conversation events give viewers an up-close and personal look at these four Medalists and Bay Area legendary design leaders. Casual and interactive, they showcase more than just the award-winning work. They present the designers’ process, early work, their stories and their relationships with each other.

The combination of exhibits and conversations affords a multifaceted insight into the whole designer.

As these past years have been witness to transformations in every aspect of our lives, we expect no less from the vibrant community of today as we go forward into the future.
The AIGA was formed in 1914 by a small group of graphic artists who gathered in New York City for mutual support and encouragement. By the 1980’s, the AIGA had grown into a national design organization with over 1,600 members. San Francisco Bay Area designers established the AIGA SF chapter in 1983.

AIGA in 2014 has over 25,000 members, and over 1,700 of them are in the San Francisco chapter. As a national organization, AIGA has experienced many milestones: honoring more than 150 leaders with the AIGA Medal; highlighting design excellence through dozens of competitions; uniting designers around issues raised at annual conferences; and creating the opportunities for relationships that forge a true profession. AIGA’s strength lies in its 67 U.S. chapters and two international affiliates, where members celebrate design in their own communities and engage in thoughtful conversations with peers.

AIGA SF celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2008 with the publication of “What Were We Thinking?” The collection documents the heroic accomplishment of our local design leaders in a community that perhaps has no equal in the world for embracing change and innovation.
