The default thumbnail is often a mid-blink, a transition frame, or a black cut. It represents your video badly and the viewer scrolls past before your first second ever plays.
Different platforms grab different frames. Your video looks like one thing on LinkedIn, another in an email, and a third on your product page, so the same asset has no visual identity.
Designing a thumbnail in Photoshop and uploading it to every host, CMS, and email tool is a per-video chore. Multiply by a weekly publishing cadence and the design queue never clears.
