A YouTube-hosted appeal video that opens with an ad (any ad, from any industry) undermines the credibility of the ask. Donors give attention to the ad, not to the beneficiary's story.
When the appeal ends, YouTube shows suggested thumbnails from the algorithm, often unrelated. The moment of highest emotional engagement points at whatever video the algorithm decided, not at your donate button.
The organization's identity (logo, colors, tone) gets subsumed by the platform's chrome. The video reads as generic content in a YouTube frame, not as the nonprofit's story on the nonprofit's terms.
